A glucose meter is a device used to measure the blood glucose level in your body. The device is used by individuals with diabetes and by those people afflicted with either hyperglycemia (high blood cellulose) or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). It is also a tool that is used, so that a patient can conduct a home-based blood cellulose monitoring system without having to constantly go to the doctor.
How to use?
This is done by obtaining a small amount of blood sample from a person’s fingertips. The blood is placed in an absorbent tip or paper, which can tell you how low or blood your glucose level is.
Testing in various times of the day
Why do we have to test blood sugar level in various times of the day? This is because your blood sugar level defines what kind of treatment you need. Apart from that, your blood sugar levels can also determine what type of diet and medicine you need to be able to improve.
Fasting blood glucose
This is the level of glucose in your blood after a span of eight hours. This must be measured in order to know if your last meal from the previous night is sustaining the right amount of blood sugar in your system until the morning. If your sugar is too low, you may need to have some significant changes in your last meal of the day. Or if it’s too high, make sure you manage your sugar intake through the food you eat before sleeping.
Before meals
In the same vein, testing your blood glucose through glucose meter before meals is a must. This is because knowing the level of your blood cellulose before eating, makes you decide the type of diet that you are about to eat to either decrease or increase your sugar. If the testing is too high, then it is best to avoid starchy and sugary food on the next meal.
After meals
Two hours after meals is another significant time to test your blood glucose levels to be able to monitor how your nutritional intake have influenced the blood glucose levels in your body.
In the end, using the glucose meter is a very good way of self-monitoring. The doctors and specialists can do so much in keeping your health at its most manageable. In the end, its your own conscientiousness and monitoring, which can help your health improve in a major way.

Comparing Some of the Big Box Retailers August 31st, 2010
There are small businesses, and there are big businesses, and really big businesses. Some of the biggest companies in today’s global economy are the giant retailers such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, and IKEA, also known as ‘big box stores’. To analyze and compare these three is interesting because both Home Depot, and Lowe’s are U.S.-based, publically traded companies, while IKEA is a European, privately-held company. In the next few paragraphs, we will look at how these companies stack up in terms of size, revenue, international reach, and history.
First, let’s take a look at who is the biggest retailer when measuring by numbers of stores and employees. Through this unit of measurement, Home Depot is the largest of the three with 2,200 stores and over 320,000 employees. Next up is Lowes with over 1,700 store locations and 235,000 employees. IKEA is last in this leg of the analysis, with over 300 stores and 125,000 employees.
In terms of annual revenue, the 3 chains shake up in their overall order a little bit with Lowes stores tallying up a whopping total of $47.2b in 2009, followed by $41.2b in 2009 for the Home Depot stores, and $28.9b in 2009 revenue for IKEA stores.
In terms of International reach, the European-run IKEA stores are by far the farthest reaching, with their retail outlets spanning 37 countries throughout North America, Asia, Europe, and Australia. Of the two American companies, Home Depot stores are located in a few more countries than Lowes stores, boasting retail chains in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Mexico, and China in addition to North America. Lowes stores are found strictly is the U.S. and Canada.
As far as which giant has been around for the longest, that title would go to Lowe’s, having been founded in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina back in 1946. IKEA opened their first store in Småland, Sweden in 1958. Home Depot is the youngest of these three, having been founded in 1978 in unincorporated Cobb County, Georgia.
So given how these 3 big box giants measured up in size, revenue, international reach, and history, which store would you consider to be the most significant in today’s economy? It’s certainly a debatable question!

Does Homeopathic HCG Work? August 30th, 2010
Recently Homeopathic HCG has become a hot new way to lose weight. Part of the reason for its popularity is that many people are seeking to do Dr. Simeon’s HCG Protocol for weight loss but are reluctant to inject themselves on a daily basis with the HCG hormone. In addition, the HCG hormone is expensive, hard to locate and requires a doctor’s prescription (or ordering it from an overseas pharmacy which takes 6 weeks to deliver if it is not confiscated by customs officials).
Some physicians like myself, have discovered that people are getting comparable results using the HCG hormone injections. and the Homeopathic version of HCG. The difference between the two treatments is that the HCG hormone is made into a homeopathic remedy (diluted hundreds of times and potentized) so that it is an energetic imprint of the original substance that works in the body on an energetic level.
I know of at least once vocal critic of using Homeopathic HCG for weight loss. She warns her newsletter list frequently that homeopathic remedies only work by reversing symptoms and therefore is not applicable for weight loss. Indeed, classical homeopathy invented by Dr. Hahnemann in the 1800′s works like this: if you have a rash and itchy skin and you can try homeopathic Rhus Tox (poison ivy) and it can help your symptoms disappear. Homeopathy works by giving rememdies that would normally cause symptoms in a well person can cancel out those symptoms in someone with those symptoms. Strange but true.
So how would homeopathic HCG fit into this method? It doesn’t. However, Homeopathy works in many ways besides reversing symptoms. For example, there is a type of homeopathy called Oligotherapy which provides very small doses of vitamins, minerals, supplements and hormones that can be very powerful in nudging the body in the direction of health.
Homeopathy has several other categories of remedies each of which has a different method of action such as Miasms, Sarcodes, Liquitrophics, Hormetics Restoratives, Allersodes, and Isodes.
This critic also states that homeopathic HCG does not provide enough HCG to actually work and the only weight loss that occurs is due to the 500 calorie diet which will actually cause harm to the hypothalamus for being on a very low calorie diet.
This is not true. The studies that compare those who go on a 500 calorie diet with and without the HCG hormone show that those who take the HCG experience little to no hunger, have a resculpting effect on the body, show more inches lost, show a large decrease in emotional eating and binge eating. This proves that the HCG hormone has a significant effect on the body. Furthermore, those who use homeopathic HCG also experience these same advantages.
Sometimes I visit HCG Forums and see people posting messages that Homeopathic HCG does not work. I ask them if they have used it or tried it on patients and the answer is always “No.” I have not found a single critic who has had any experience with the Homeopathic version and I would love for any critics to show me their data if they have any that supports their views.
I fear that this protocol, as miraculous as it is, can be a bit cult-like and the people who use it can be quite dogmatic about following it exactly as Simeon’s wrote in his HCG Bible. To me, this is dangerous, if we do not want to stay in the dark ages we always needs to be open to experimentation and continual improvement. In my medial opinion, there is much room for improvement on Simeon’s protocol. In my book on Homeopathic HCG, I have added suggestions to his protocol to reflect what we know about biochemistry, physiology, physics and nutrition and most importantly, natural medicine in the 21st century and I hope to see his work continually improving as science advances.
Does Homeopathic Hormone treatment work? Yes it works and it works well. I observed a physician in Scottsdale, Arizona for three months and his specialty was using homeopathic hormone treatment for all sorts of hormone conditions. He had a waiting list of 6 months due to the efficacy of his therapies with no side-effects.
We are continually collecting data from those who have done both the full strength HCG and the homeopathic version and they are reporting to me that they are getting the same results from both versions. All the health care practitioners that I have spoken with who are using homeopathic HCG are also getting the same positive results.
